The Flood of 2005 Big Folder

The Flood of 2005 Big Folder

This is a more detailed gallery of the 2005 flood. The flood of 2005 lasted just over 4 weeks and it was pure hell for lots of families who lost almost everything they had worked so hard to achieve. The real reason for the flooding has never been officially investigated, it was blamed on the heavy rainfall that started on January 14, but many citizens firmly believe that the East Coast Water Conservancy, that runs from Mahaica to the Demerara river, had over-topped its banks causing the massive flooding.

21 citizens of Guyana died during the flood of 2005, most of them from water-bourne diseases such as Leptospirosis, Dysentery and Typhoid, we pay our respects to them in tribute with the photos in this series. May their souls rest in peace.

The photos in this gallery are January 15, 2005 to January 27, 2005, we have watermarked the date on each photo so you can follow the timeline of the flood.

Take this trip back in time as we remember that horrid period in the lives of so many who suffered. Regards Bryan Max
